April McCoy, age 45, passed away Monday November 16, 2015, at the DeKalb Medical Center in Decatur, GA. The Miami native had lived in Tattnall County since 1999. April started out dispatching with the Reidsville Police Department from 1999 to 2001, from there she moved over to Tattnall County E-911 as a dispatcher and Primary TAC, she remained with 911 until health reasons made her leave in 2010. April also worked with Tattnall EMS as an EMT during these years. In her free time she enjoyed spending time at the beach; where the salt air and friendly people boosted her spirits. April is preceded in death by her mother, Gwen McCoy and a brother, Hank McCoy.
She is survived by her daddy, Broxton McCoy of Reidsville; brother, Tim McCoy of Reidsville; several cousins, and a host of friends. May God be with each and every one of you, family both blood and badge, to comfort you as you begin this journey!
In keeping with April’s wishes, memorialization will be by cremation.
On a personal note:
April was my first partner…trainer you could say, and she gave me her complete support as I took my calls and encouraged me to continue on when I felt that I could not do this type of work. From that day forward, I have come to love the job that I do today and take it very seriously. So to you April, I say thank you for giving me the encouragement that I needed to get to where I am now. You are a great friend and will be truly missed, until we meet again. Fly high my dear friend, we got your radio covered from here.

Good morning. We lost one of our fire fighters last night. I want Ben to put something on the website for prayer request since I am apart of that family. Below is information I copied off the go fund me account about Ricky. Thanks.
None of us could prepare for the events of Friday, April 24, 2015. Lt. Ricky Thurman reported for work as he has done for the past 27 years protecting our community. As usual he was full of life, love and laughter. He spent the day working hard and joking with his brothers at the fire house. That afternoon things quickly changed without a warning. While working a structure fire Ricky collapsed with a heart attack. Deputies, EMS and Firefighters all worked tirelessly providing CPR. They saved his life and we are all so thankful for those everyday HERO's. He was airlifted to GRU Hospital in Augusta, Ga. At this time he remains in critical condition in CCU. Family and friends have not left him since this tragic event began.
We are sorry to report that we lost him last night.
Congratulations to Secretary Martha Culbreth! Martha has been appointed Emanuel County 911/EMA Director.Continue reading →
